The five limbs of panchang
A tithi spans 12 degrees of lunar-solar elongation. A nakshatra is one of 27 lunar sectors. Yoga is derived from the sum of sidereal solar and lunar longitudes. Karana is half a tithi; vara is the weekday.
Why does location matter?
Sunrise and sunset depend on location. Sunrise tithi, daily periods and festival observances can therefore differ between places on the same civil date.
